SRL Academy 2020

I was beyond honored to be accepted into the 2020 Academy. It was here that I built new connections around the nation, produced my first-ever remote story, and learned the art of connecting to people in an interview (and so, so much more.) Through SRL I was also able to participate in zoom sessions with KQED's Above The Noise, where I connected with student journalists around the nation and had conversations on hot button issues at the time, with the goal of providing straight-forward information to students in a turbulent time.

Rapid Response

Questions Students Have For Democratic Candidates

When I filmed this Rapid Response, I filmed about 5 students, this response was featured on the PBS Newshour. Daniel can be found at 2:20. This Rapid response taught me about moving on the fly, as I only had a day to collect my responses. I filmed several other Rapid Response prompts over the course of my junior year, including Sex Education and Vaping.

PBS Bootcamp

My Sophomore year, Student Reporting Labs visited Cody, WY to run a Broadcast Journalism Bootcamp. Here, I learned sharper and quicker editing skills in Adobe Premiere, as well a the art of a 2-angle interview, and how to tighten up shot sequences.

Power In Numbers Prompt

With Alicia Kain

The aforementioned walkout story I worked with Alicia Kain on was featured by PBS Student Reporting Labs my freshman year. This story taught me about capturing the human impact of an event, as opposed to simply capturing the event.
