Awards, Distinctions, and Achievements

Especially during my work with PBS NewsHour, I've come to realize that while gaining awards and recognition are absolutely honorable, the true satisfaction lies within the experiences we gain through learning and work. I have, in the last couple years, gravitated towards more opportunities to learn and strengthen my journalistic skills, rather than simply thirsting for recognition like my younger self did. I'm eternally grateful to have found a balance between competition, and remembering what, or who, I'm working for.

Travel and Opportunities

I have attended several state and one national convention in my career. I have attended the WHSSPA State Journalism convention annually since my sophomore year, and also attended the 2019 NSPA/JEA High School Journalism Convention in Anaheim, CA. Both these trips have provided me with absolutely invaluable experience. I have grown my ability  to work under pressure in (both state and national) on-site competitions, and I have steno pads upon steno pads of notes from every breakout session I attended at every event. These conventions iones allowed me to meet people who share the same passions as me, who I felt I could build connections with on an even deeper level than just my peers back home.

As COVID forced so many events to go online, Wyoming's Milward Simpson Award ceremony was forced to do just the same. To be sure the "show could go on," the Award committee decided to take the address digital. Ihad the privilege of filming the address with Senator Alan Simpson and Representative Pete Simpson.
